It’s Football Season!
As Americans tune in for football season, and we cheer on our favorite teams and players, we know inevitably we will see some accidents and injuries take place this fall. Unfortunately, it’s just part of the game.
A recent National Law Review article, “Worker’s Compensation on the Gridiron,” reminds us that our favorite football stars are employees of a professional team. And like employees all over Wisconsin and the U.S., they are protected by Worker’s Compensation Law if they are injured on the job.
Claims and Compensability
When we see a player injure an ankle, knee, or shoulder, we don’t often stop and think about the legal and medical steps that will follow. However, Worker’s Comp claims are filed – often in states that are not home, depending on where the injury occurred – and the healing process begins.
“While most fans do not watch a game to ponder the intricacies of workers’ compensation liability, it is ironic that the pastime of so many can have such an impact on the practical aspects of employment,” the article says.
