Taking the Intimidation Out of Seeking a Personal Injury Lawyer

If you have been involved in a personal injury accident and feel that another party is responsible, you may want to consult with a lawyer, like a personal injury lawyer, to find out if you might be able to receive some compensation. However, many people are intimidated by the thought of seeking legal help because of the misconceptions surrounding how someone “hires” a lawyer.  The reality is that finding a good lawyer requires some research, as is the case with doctors, dentists, and other professionals. There are a few steps you can take to facilitate the process of finding a personal injury lawyer or law firm.

Research Reviews of the Lawyer

Once you find a lawyer or law firm you may be interested in hiring, it is crucial that you take a second step into your investigation and see if you can find reviews or testimonials from former clients of the lawyer or law firm you have in mind.  Read through the reviews but pay attention to the review itself – if there is poor grammar and spelling or if the review seems to ramble on, then take what it says with a grain of salt and use your own judgment. Not every lawyer will make everyone happy, but if they have multiple negative reviews that point to a similar issue, you might want to look into a different lawyer or law firm.

Consult the State Bar Website

Each state has a State Bar website that will provide information about a lawyer that practices within the state. If you find a specific lawyer that you may want to hire, you can look up the lawyer’s contact information and their address of business via the State Bar website. The State Bar is the watchdog of lawyers, therefore the web page for a specific lawyer will also provide information about any sort of sanctions, suspensions, and penalties that have been imposed upon the lawyer by the State Bar.

Personal Referrals/Word of Mouth

One of the most common ways people find a lawyer is actually through personal referrals either from friends, colleagues, family or a social network of people who are dealing with similar issues. This might be the most preferred method of finding a lawyer as well, as people trust the reviews from other people they actually know or that have experienced similar injuries or legal issues. Lawyers also know how important word of mouth is when it comes to obtaining new clients, so referrals are very common. Social media is also an easy, convenient, and efficient method of obtaining referrals because you can do everything from home. It never hurts to reach out to the community and you will be surprised to find how many people have been in your shoes. Whatever method you choose to find lawyer, the more research you conduct, the better
